Charlie has always had a soft spot for a good burger—no matter how fancy the restaurant, he’s likely to order one. This year, we upped our game by sourcing our beef from a local farmer friend, and it made all the difference. A touch of old bay seasoning in the mix is another secret to a great homemade burger.

Ingredients:
1 lb. lean ground beef
1/3 yellow onion, finely diced
1 tbsp. ketchup
1 tsp. yellow mustard
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp old bay seasoning
Salt & pepper to taste
Sesame buns
Fixings: mayo, lettuce, ketchup, mustard, cheese, pickle
Instructions:
Use clean hands to mix all of your ingredients together in a medium bowl. The ketchup and mustard add flavour and act as a binder instead of egg.
Form the mixture into hamburger patties by first rolling them into medium balls and pressing them down to about 1/2 inch thick.
Cook patties on the BBQ for 5 minutes on one side, the flip and cook for another 5 minutes or until the beef reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Be careful not to overcook.
Serve on a sesame bun and load it up with mayonnaise, lettuce, ketchup, mustard, a pickle and cheese (we love processed cheese on a burger).
